I’ve been consumed this week with moving my site from a regular wordpress blog to a self hosted blog so that I could change the URL. I’m proud to announce that after a few hours I finally got it all worked out and have now launched www.IanFagala.com, which is pretty exciting for me.
Since I’ve been working on that I really haven’t had much time to write anything so figured I’d sit down and just do a bit of a brain dump, and throw out some random thoughts.
The first is that the move to a new URL is part of my larger idea for the site. I plan on adding some new features and have some new ideas that I feel will be pretty kick ass. While I’ve struggled in the past with what to do and where to go next with the site I’ve started to formulate a clear vision of what I want it to be and have started to work towards that.
It’s all still pretty early but hopefully you’ll start to see some new things here and there.
Recently I started listening to David and Goliath By Malcolm Gladwell, and it is very interesting book. Gladwell is one of my favorite authors when it comes to Social Psychology and understanding the world around us, and so far this book has been awesome.
Using the classic tale of David and Goliath from the Bible he talks about how the underdogs in life may not always be at the disadvantage that we think they are. He goes on to explain how some disabilities and things we typically view as setbacks are the exact same things that allow us to succeed because they provide us with a different viewpoint from the norm. Those disadvantages force us to learn differently or think differently and as a result they actually empower us to be or act differently and that can be very powerful and result in innovative ideas that might not have otherwise come about.
That doesn’t mean that having a disability or certain disadvantages isn’t hard but simply they provide a different world view and hence can be very powerful. I’d highly recommend the book and I haven’t even finished it. I’ve also read The Tipping Point and Outliers by Gladwell, which are both great reads that I’d recommend as well.
Lately my own training has been going pretty well, I’ve been focused on a bit of a fat loss phase and trying to maintain strength while doing so. I’ve been pretty successful in maintaining my strength and have lost some body fat as well, so I view that as a success. However, I’ve had the itch to do something a little different.
I love lifting and being in the gym and that will never change, but I’ve done some endurance events in the past a few half marathons and dabbled a bit with triathlons. Now I don’t want to take on another half, but the idea of a tri or maybe an adventure race of sorts is appealing. While I know at times many of my friends and family view me as some fitness robot I struggle too with keeping my training exciting and interesting.
I haven’t decided on any particular event yet, but have started to look and I’ll be sure and post about what my next step is to spice up my workouts.
And I’m out!
