Don’t Wait for Motivation

The problem with waiting to get motivated to make a change, is that it may never come. And even if or when it does motivation will not always be there. You will not always feel motivated to get up at 5am to workout.

Motivation comes and goes and things like stress, overwhelm, and lack of sleep can make it that much easier to opt out. The novelty of a new workout or diet will wear out after a few weeks too.

Instead of waiting on motivation to be high you can reduce the resistance. Reduce the activity to its easiest step to get started. That could be just putting your workout shoes on. Once you have them on if you’re still facing resistance, just plan to go for a 5 minute walk instead of the normal 30 minutes. The idea is to reduce the need for motivation so low that it becomes a non issue.

Don’t try and power through it that comes later once you have built that skill a little more. The ability to do this is in fact a skill and something that can be learned. As you continue to develop that skill eventually motivation will be less of a factor.
